Title: Because of You
Author: cheapxdate
Era: Post-DH (ignores epilogue... or does it?)
Characters: Harry Potter, Hermione Granger / Appearances by Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, Luna Lovegood, Ginny Weasley & others
Pairing: Harry Potter/Hermione Granger.
Category: A little bit of everything, really. Mainly Romance/Angst, but definitely added some Fluff/Humor in there as well.
Rating: PG-13 / T+ [Suggested Adult Content / Adult Themes / Language
Summary: Harry and Hermione were in love and swore that nothing could ever tear them apart. But something did; something big. Now Harry's about to marry Ginny and Hermione's chance to reveal the truth about what happened those long two years ago is quickly fading. Can they rekindle their love and forgive each other before it's too late or are they already out of time?
Disclaimer: Not mine, but I haven't given up dreaming.
Warnings: Mild Language & Implied Sexual Content ; both minimal
Author's Notes: I received more positive feedback than expected with this one. I do pride myself on the fact that [if nothing else] it is well written. Give it a chance. I'm hoping to get the story more exposure, so I apologize for the fake cut x2. [The first cut is my banner which leads to the story.]
Word Count: 20,000+ // Chapters 1-7 posted. Remaining chapters already completed & posted every 1-2 days.

Gen:

'Learning to Uncurl' by Amorette - the whole concept of animagi has spawned some really entertaining fic, to which this story needs to be added. Harry, now teaching at Hogwarts, is making the most of his time as an animagus and wants Snape to share his enjoyment as well.

Snape/Harry:

'No Good Deed' by Maeglin Yedi - needing to know exactly why Snape killed Dumbledore, Harry has to work hard in order to find out the details. Snape/Harry (who is 18).

'On a Clear Day' by Stella Hobbit - when they killed Voldemort, Harry Potter and Severus Snape never realised what would happen to everything else around them. Snape/Adult!Harry

I'm posting this again because we've had a couple of people recently who requested membership but don't have their birthdate listed in their userinfo, even though it says in the community profile we need to see birthdates before we can approve membership:

I just wanted to drop a note for the benefit of anyone who may be watching this community and has tried to join recently, but has not had membership approved. Members of this community must be 18 years or older and their birthdate must be included in their user information or we cannot approve membership. Live Journal requires that members of communities that allow adult content have their birthdate showing in their journal.

So, if you're waiting to be approved, it would be helpful if you show your birthdate in your user info and drop an e-mail to me at desktopdiva73(at)yahoo(dot)com.

Thanks!

May. 1st, 2006 @ 11:50 am A few recs for the beginning of May...
Current Mood: cheerful
Gen:

'To the Ghost' by Jintian - Years later, as he sat alone on the Hogwarts Express, Draco's thoughts drifted back to all of these things, like debris pushed onto shore. Outside his window the land fell away from the tracks like the slow-moving surface of a sea, at once familiar and strange, pushing memories from hiding places and old dreams awake.

Snape/Lupin:

'The God of Things as They Ought To Be' by Busaikko - Or maybe this particular story should be renamed 'How Remus Lupin Spent His Midlife Crisis'?

'Smoke Instead of Sunlight' by MusIgneus - surprised to encounter Snape after the death of Dumbledore, Lupin makes a decision that both of them might live to regret.

'All the World Drops Dead' by Rian - Severus had no idea what he was doing here in this tiny flat with this man that he hated and who hated him back.

Snape/Harry:

The (slash) sequel to 'The End of the World', where Voldemort has won but has let Harry Potter live: 'Magpie' by Abstract Concept - without magic of his own, Harry struggles to deal with life and how to fulfill a certain prophecy. Snape/Adult!Harry

'I Know An Old Lady' by Rinsbane - when Severus Snape is finally captured after the war against Voldemort is long over, they find a way to punish the Deatheaters that nobody can disagree with, surely? Snape/Adult!Harry

'Tactical Invitation' by Diagonalist - Harry gets an offer just as Snape gets to the end of his tether. Snape/Adult!Harry

Mar. 6th, 2006 @ 11:00 pm Recs for March...
Current Mood: cold
Gen:

'Inevitability' by Kay Taylor - given the chance to end the war with Voldemort once and for all, just what lengths will Harry go to in order to change what seems like inevitable defeat, and what kind of future will his choices create?

'elle avoit vu le loup' by Kay Taylor - Hermione remembers the moment when she first saw the wolf; how could she forget it?

'The Brewer' by Josan - another engrossing tale, this time setting up a possible future for Severus Snape when the Wizengamot has dealt with him and decided exile is to be his fate.

Snape/Lupin:

'It Helps' by McKay - even more than most holiday fics, I usually avoid Valentine's Day stories like the proverbial plague they are. This one is a welcome exception. Snape receives an unexpected note, and then an even more unexpected visitor. Snape/Lupin preslash.

PSA: If anyone is interested in getting these recs 'hot off the press', I now have a recs journal where these (and those in other fandoms) will appear as and when I come across them: [info]recs_by_grac

Gen:

'Very Hard Times' by Bowdlerized - thanks to Dumbledore, Severus Snape and Harry Potter are trapped together. An amusing story that's labelled as Snape/Harry but I think it's gen.

Snape/Adult!Harry:

'Möbius' by [info]geneticallydead - Harry comes back to Hogwarts, hailed by all as the killer of Voldemort, but that isn't anything like what happened in reality and only the two of them know the truth about everything... Snape/Adult!Harry

And there's more... )

Feb. 12th, 2006 @ 01:14 pm Am I the only one?
Current Mood: curious
You know, I'm beginning to wonder whether I'm the only person who has particular views on certain HP-related subjects, so I thought I'd throw this out as a question here (especially as I feel I've been spamming the community with recs)...

Opinion 1 - I really don't like Sirius Black. I dislike the way he behaves towards Snape, as a teenager, and he doesn't seem to improve much as the books go on. But I don't think it's the book!Sirius I object to so much (though oddly enough I understand that Black is/was JKR's favourite character), but the sanitised airbrushed fanon!Sirius. The one who can do no wrong, who's just a poor misunderstood woobie. And people make fun of people who like Snape...

Opinion 2 - I could care less about Marauder-era stories. Not necessarily because the characters there commit the (for me) cardinal sin of being-mean-to-Snape, though I don't deny this is a factor, but because teenagers en masse are intrinsically much less interesting to me than either teenager-adult interactions or adult-adult interactions.

Opinion 3 - What's with the Malfoy thing? I find all the Malfoys two-dimensional ciphers, so I don't get the appeal of writing them with anyone. Please feel free to try and convince me that I'm wrong... ;)

Thoughts? Opinions? Rotten tomatoes?

Okay, here's the rest of the recs from my extensive reading over the holiday period, as promised:

'Kindred Spirits' by Beth H. - Hermione finds herself empathising with the house elves even more than usual. Gen.

'The Veil' by Josan - Sirius Black wasn't the only one who fell through... Gen.

'Justice for All' - why exactly does Albus Dumbledore trust Severus Snape so much? Gen prequel to her excellent Snape/Shacklebolt story (written with Josan) 'A Matter of Trust: First Things First'.

Jan. 8th, 2006 @ 12:35 am Recs, part 1
I'm just in the process of updating my recs pages (now separated into pairing/genre) with all the wonderful HP fic that was generated as a result of various secret santa challenges, most notably those held by [info]lupin_snape and the multiple pairing one of [info]merry_smutmas. There's so much good fic that I'm still only part way through so here's part 1 of my recs from those challenges and elsewhere:

'Castaways' by Your Cruise Director - now a teacher at Hogwarts, Harry stumbles across his former adversary Professor Snape while he is in the middle of an unfamiliar ritual and stays to find out more. Gen.

'The Fourth Year' by Calligraphy - in his role as Snape's minder/keeper, Harry Potter's attitude towards his former professor makes a sea change even as Snape struggles with Muggle technology and his nascent addiction to daytime soap operas. Adult!Harry/Snape.

Dec. 29th, 2005 @ 06:39 pm Looks like a few more...
Sorry, just a few more recs before the year's out...

'Coming To Terms' by Arachne's Child - confession is good for the soul. Snape/Lupin.

'Clause and Effect' by Kalena - I've never been a major fan of holiday stories, since most of them are much too saccharine for my taste, but for this story I'll make an exception. Snape is working for Harry Potter after the war, always wondering when that 'and other services as required' clause in his magical contract is going to kick in. Adult!Harry/Snape.

'Salve' by rose_whispers - Another unexpected pleasure, as Snape finds himself forced to work at St. Mungos as a penance for his acts during the war and reluctantly tends to the needs of one particular patient. Snape/adult!Ron Weasley.
