SUMMARY:

His mother almost flew across the station to him, hugging him tightly. He bore the tearful embrace patiently, much the same way he had the last time that they had discovered they betrayed them. Parents could get so emotional sometimes.

 

His father was not quite so quick to follow, and for a moment Barty thought the old fool might actually be holding a grudge about the way things had turned out. That seemed unfair - it was hardly his fault he had needed to kill him, after all. If he'd stopped trying to interfere all the time, stopped getting in the way of things that had to be done, he could have been allowed to live.

 

Of course, none of that could be said out loud. Instead he turned woeful eyes on his father, using a repentant expression that had worked for decades. "Dad? Aren't you pleased to see me?"

Ticket to Ride

Title: The Road Less Traveled

You might be following this story already, but if not, you should be. It's a careful, intricate WIP featuring Albus Severus & Scorpius in their time at Hogwarts.

scoradh's original characters are great, especially (in my opinion) the scion of the Dursley family who makes an awesome appearance. The story explores sibling relationships in a fascinating and realistic (non- sugar coated) fashion, and really makes Albus Severus & Scorpius come alive - not just as pale replications of their fathers, but in their own right. The carefully sketching out of character is this fic's true brilliance - both in the author's OCs and in the characters that we met only briefly in canon - [such as the story's main antagonists, James and Rose, who much like James Sr. and Sirius used to, show us some of the darker side of Gryffindor.]

The pairing is but hinted at now, but the foreshadowing is lovely.

As the title indicates, this story is travelling over original ground, with a fresh perspective, while still keeping the familiar resonances that we look for. It's one of the most engaging stories I've read in a long time.
